PAPANASAM

He is ONE IN ALL & ALL IN ONE

Besides the architectural splendors found in our temples, some of these places of worship have certain aspects built into them that make them so unique and different from others and need a special mention here.

One such important place is Papanasam with 108 Siva Lingams. The legend has it that Sri Rama installed and worshiped the 108 Lingams at Sri Ramanatha Swamy temple at Papanasam to get rid of the sin acquired by killing the two demons, Kara and Dushana. And, it is believed that Sri Hanuman also brought a Lingam, known as Hanumantha Lingam here. There are 106 Sivalingams similar in size and form, arranged in several rows and columns, all at a place next to the sanctum sanctorum. The presiding deity Ramalinga Swamy and Hanumantha Lingam make up a total of 108 Sivlingams here. Papanasam is the sthalam where the Lord prevails as one in all and all in one. The Goddess is Sri Parvathavarshini. Papanasam is 18 KM away from Kumbakonam on Kumbakonam – Tanjore highway.

This town is near to my village or the other way round. In my village the siva linga changes its colour five time a day depending upon the time of the day. worth seeing. Also at this temple Kali is in a sober mood giving boons to the devottes.
